Physical Education

Physical Education at Sts Peter and Paul's School is considered a part of a child's whole development.  Students in all year levels participate in the core skills from the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA) for Health and Physical Education from Prep to Year 6. The Sports uniform is worn on PE lesson days and special events and Interhouse Sports Day.

These skills development lessons are also enhanced with additional classes in Prep with our Sts Peter and Paul’s HPE Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). This unique PMP Skills Program focuses on all areas of gross motor movement with a special focus on core growth of the individual Gross Motor Skills.

Inter-house Sporting Calendar

A highlight of the yearly School Sporting Calendar are the Inter-house challenges in Swimming, Cross Country, Track and Field specifically designed for Sports House team cohesion and individual success.  These opportunities provide a time to get out of the classroom and participate in age group activities suited to skills and talents of our students.

The 4 Sports Houses have a rich tradition at our School, being named after our founding Church priests of Fr Concannon (Green), Fr O’Keeffe (Blue), Fr Ryan (Red) and Fr O’Brien (Gold). Our Year 6 Leaders capably lead and support all sporting events with pride and passion leading their team.

Inter-School and Representative School Sport

Inter-school sport is available to children from Year 4 to Year 6. This is only one aspect of a Physical Education program and is used to develop healthy attitudes towards competition and participation. Sports uniforms are worn on Interschool Sports Days.

We are actively engaged members of the Lytton District School Sports Association that provide elite sporting pathways with opportunities that lead-on to the Metropolitan East Sports Region and Queensland School Sports Associations events for students aged 10 – 12yrs (calculated using their year of birth). QLD School Sports Representation pathways exist for specific sports in these programs.

As valued members of the Brisbane Catholic Schools Zone 2 Sports Association, we participate in Gala Days and the “Big Three” Carnivals of Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field against our Catholic School neighbours.

There are many more opportunities each year that we participate in, such as Australian Rules Football (AFL), Netball, Soccer, Rugby Union and Tennis with our Regional Sporting Associations.

Sports Specific Skills -  Swimming

At Sts Peter and Paul's School we believe that swimming is a vital skill for ALL children.

Students from Prep to Year 6 attend swimming lessons during either Term 1 or 4. They travel by bus to a local swimming pool and are taught by our Contracted Partners in Swimming Instruction.  These lessons culminate in a Swimming Demonstration Carnival catering for all levels of ability.
